Preset reference

Auto-generated summary of every built-in preset that ships in the app. Tap a preset name in the app to load it; this page describes what's inside — voices, FX highlights, timing envelopes, and (for the Drone Artists category) curated artistic context.

Each row is one voice. Source is the waveform or sample. Highlights lists non-default amp / drive / filter / reverb / delay / grain / timing values — defaults are omitted to keep the table scannable. Pitches are shown as both note name and Hz so they read in any tuning system.

Basinski — Disintegration ios web

Basinski · tape-loop voice + pink-noise hiss · C major support

William Basinski recorded a 1980s tape loop in 2001, only to watch its iron oxide flake off into his cassette deck across hours of playback. The recording of that decay became The Disintegration Loops. This preset uses pink-noise granular on voice 4 to mimic the tape-hiss layer, with the main melodic voices entering at 90 s — the long fade-in is the point. Pair with the WINDOW row's fade-in/out settings on a sample voice for the literal tape-decay effect.

Budd — Pearl Pad ios web

Harold Budd · soft Cmaj7 pad · breathing amp LFO · 9 s reverb halo

Harold Budd played soft-pedalled Steinways through cascading reverb tanks; Brian Eno produced him. The preset uses sine voices with mild chorus and a very long reverb decay; the chord template defaults to a sus2 voicing because Budd's harmonic vocabulary was open and unresolved. Try it on top of a journey for an instant Eno-Budd The Plateaux of Mirror atmosphere.

Coltrane — Spiritual Organ ios web

Alice Coltrane · Bbm7 organ · Leslie pan rotation + tremolo

Alice Coltrane played Wurlitzer organ through a Leslie speaker into hours of devotional improvisation; her recordings under Swami Turiyasangitananda are the modal-jazz-ashram bridge. This preset uses sawtooth voices through chorus + delay to suggest the Leslie spread, with a Dorian-flavoured chord template. Open the Modal chord category and pick Dorian or Aeolian to lock it deeper into the spiritual-jazz idiom.

Earth — Tar Pit ios web

Earth (Carlson) · Earth-2 doom · driven low B + 4th · 10 s reverb

Earth (Dylan Carlson) basically invented drone metal in 1990 with Earth 2 — slow downtuned riffs played at minimal tempo, no drums. This preset matches the doom register: square wave bass at a tritone interval with heavy drive and high-resonance low-pass — the resonant filter sweep is what Carlson got from his amp's tone stack. Bonus: open the DRIFT pill and pick Glacial Down to suggest detuning fatigue across a long session.

Haino — Spectral Shimmer ios web

Keiji Haino · D drone + HP shimmer · wobble + chorus halo

Keiji Haino plays guitar like he's exorcising it — feedback-driven, dynamics from silence to absolute saturation, sometimes with vocal screams folded in. The preset captures the high-end shimmer rather than the violence: bandpass filter at high Q sweeping slowly, high voices on sine + triangle. Pair with chorus on max width for the stereo phasing that Haino's amplifiers produce naturally.

Niblock — Tight Cluster ios web

Phill Niblock · 4-voice microtonal cluster · beating as harmony

Phill Niblock sustained microtonal clusters at fortissimo for hours, recording dozens of takes of single notes by trombonists or cellists and layering them until beat frequencies thickened into a single inhuman timbre. This preset packs four sawtooths within a ~50-cent band so their fundamentals beat against each other; the resulting AM rhythm is what Niblock called "the unison." Use HEADPHONES — speakers can't reproduce the in-ear interference patterns.

Oliveros — Deep A Resonance ios web

Pauline Oliveros · slow A drone · voices enter at 0 / 1 / 2 / 4 min

Pauline Oliveros founded Deep Listening — the practice of letting a single sustained tone teach you to hear. This preset stacks four sine voices on a low A across two octaves and stages them in 60-second arrivals, mirroring her accordion drones that built incrementally over a session. Listen for the beat patterns between voices 1 and 2; that's where the meditation actually lives.

Palestine — Strumming Overtones ios web

Charlemagne Palestine · just D + 5/4 F# · piano-sustain chorus wash

Charlemagne Palestine sat at a Bösendorfer Imperial for hours hammering a single chord, letting the strings' upper partials emerge as audible melodies — what he called plus l'harmonie. This preset uses triangle voices with high reverb mix + long decay, and chorus on a slow rate to suggest the keyboard's micro-detuning. The chord template stays whatever you pick; the magic is in not changing it for a while.

Éliane Radigue · 4¢ + 0.3 Hz beating · static-seeming, ever-shifting

Éliane Radigue spent decades coaxing music from a single ARP 2500 synthesiser, building works where the only events are infinitesimally slow timbral shifts. This preset uses two sine voices a perfect fifth apart with very slow amplitude LFOs (around 0.05 Hz, one full cycle ≈ 20 s) and long stereo reverb — the voices breathe past each other without ever quite landing in phase. Terry Riley · just C major cascade · voices enter at 0 / 15 / 45 / 90 s

Terry Riley's In C (1964) introduced the cascade — same material entering at staggered times until the texture flowers. Four triangle voices in just-intonation C major enter at 0 / 15 / 45 / 90 s with ping-pong delay locked to eighth notes; the delay's 65% feedback turns each voice into a self-cascading echo within the larger cascade. Stars of the Lid — Orchestral Halo ios web

Stars of the Lid · A major halo · chord blooms 0 / 30 / 90 / 180 s

Stars of the Lid (Adam Wiltzie + Brian McBride) built ambient music from sampled orchestral strings stretched into haloed pads. This preset uses sawtooth voices low-passed hard, with long reverb and a chord that blooms over 3 minutes via Replay × N timing — voice 1 at 0 s, voice 2 at 30 s, voice 3 at 90 s, voice 4 at 180 s. The result is the harmonic content slowly accumulating without you noticing when each new note arrived.

Sunn O))) (pronounced "sun") plays metal at one note per minute, with maximum amplifier saturation. This preset drops the chord into the sub-bass register, cranks drive on every voice, and stacks the same root across three octaves. Drop master volume first — the drive on this patch will absolutely melt your speakers at default level. The fourth voice is a high overtone meant to suggest the bowed-cymbal partials that ride above their riffs.

Wada — Bagpipe Drone ios web

Yoshi Wada · just A + 3/2 + 9/8 · reed wobble + multi-reed chorus

Yoshi Wada built giant sirens and resurrected the Highland-pipe tradition with new technology, finding the sweet spot between folk and minimalism. This preset stacks a fifth + octave drone on sawtooth voices with stereo chorus and a touch of drive — the pipe character comes from the upper voice running a slow LFO on pitch that suggests reed instability. Set OSC 4's frequency by ear to a true just 7th over the root for the most authentic pipe colour.
